Why does Grace Church have a foundation?

Grace Church has a foundation so it can fund larger long-term projects not normally covered in the scope of the Advance the Kingdom (ATK) Offering and the budget of Grace Church. Grace Church Foundation (GCF) is established to finance projects, like the purchase of land, construction of buildings, and creation of training programs, that require more money than the ATK or general budget of Grace Church has available to allocate at any given time. In this way, GCF can provide partners with large-scale capital and resources to spread the Gospel.

What is a non-profit foundation?

A non-profit foundation is a legal entity, recognized by United States law as a 501(c)(3) organization. A foundation holds assets (the principal), which it invests, and pays out a portion of the profits earned on the assets. GCF’s holdings are endowed which means the principle is never touched. Thus the foundation has a reoccurring source of income to distribute yearly. Grants are paid out annually or semi-annually to grant-seekers who request money to use in ways that fulfill a foundation’s stated goals. With GCF, the grants will specifically go to partners whose projects are in line with the vision and mission of Grace Church.

What is the difference between GCF and ATK?

The GCF focuses on longer-term, often higher dollar Kingdom projects whereas the ATK fund focuses on shorter-term projects and missions trips. GCF is an ideal vehicle for donors considering larger one-time asset-like donations (stock, real estate) where the ATK is ideal for smaller monthly contributions. One would typically not consider giving very large sums of money or bequest assets to the ATK. Both of these are possible with the GCF. Likewise, GCF does not want to detract donors from giving to the ATK. One can and should still make the monthly contributions to the ATK in addition to giving assets to GCF.

Who should give to the foundation?

Anyone and everyone should give to GCF. If you have a desire to leave a legacy of Kingdom advancement to future generations, to see missionaries have the capital necessary for large projects, and to have your money used for God after you die, then GCF is for you. GCF accepts donations both large and small; anyone can give.

Can I give to GCF out of my regular tithe?

No. It is the theology of Grace Church that the tithe is the first 10 percent of a members gross income that is given to the local church for the general mission and needs of the body. Practically speaking, for the Grace Church member, or any member of a local church wishing to donate to GCF, that is the general fund of the church. Neither the ATK nor GCF is an appropriate place for the tithe.

How long does the foundation last?

Essentially, GCF exists forever. The money will be invested and only the dividends will be distributed each year; the principle should last forever. Since GCF is a corporation, it is designed to last even after all the initial founders are gone.

How will I keep up with the foundation?

GCF will distribute an annual newsletter to all of its donors and will make its financial reports publicly available. The newsletter will include the investment information and standing, recent grants distributed, and any pertinent information regarding the foundation. If you are not a donor but would like to receive the most recent newsletter, please fill out the card attached to this packet and it will be sent to you.

How do partners apply to receive funding from the foundation?

If partners wish to be considered for a grant from GCF they will need to fill out a grant application form. Grants are considered for funding on at least an annual basis.

How are the grants decided upon?

The GCF Board of Trustees is in charge of determining who receives grant money and how much money they receive. Once the payout amount for the year is determined, the Board will review the grant applications and pick the ones most closely following the stated mission of GCF. As many grants as can be funded with the available money will be.

How often will GCF pay out and how much will it pay out?

GCF will annually evaluate its investment standing and determine how much money to pay out that year. GCF will pay out as much as it can on average while ensuring the principle maintains its real, inflation-adjusted value. The payouts will be made throughout the calendar year.

Who is on the GCF Board of Trustees?

The current Board members are: Brad Argue, Rocky Armstrong, Curtis Campbell, Fred Connor, Matthew Everson, Clarke Gay, Will McFarlane, Jeff Paine, Jim Reklis, Kendrick Vinar, Roy Wall, and Bob Watson.
