Yuri Semeniuk

In 1989 the powers of communism in Germany, the Soviet Union, and Romania fell, opening the door for religious freedom and Christianity in Eastern Europe. However, communism did not fall in every country – including the tiny county of Transnistria, which is on the border of Romania and Moldova. Transnistria is still run by a rigidly communist regime, where the church is still heavily persecuted. But in the face of this hardship, Yuri and Oksana Semeniuk are leading a thriving, often underground, church. Yuri has been blessed with immense vision and an entrepreneurial spirit. Transnistria is one of the poorest countries in Europe and has many opportunities to reach poor, unchurched people. Yuri has already started an orphanage, a drug rehabilitation clinic, and a few small business ventures. Funding GCF grants can be used to assist in two important needs in Yuri’s ministry: One would fund the new building for Yuri’s church. The current building is not large enough and does not provide enough space for its numerous ministries, including its youth and children’s ministries. The second project would fund several of Yuri’s business ventures, which will help his church create a steady stream of income to be self-sufficient.
Yuri and Oksana got connected with Grace Church through Grace’s missionary efforts in Romania. They have traveled to Grace twice for the annual Global Impact Celebration missions conference, and Yuri has preached twice at Grace. They have three children, Aliona (15), Bogdan (10), and Pavel (9).
